Greetings everyone! I have started a YouTube channel, and I’ll be making videos of my essays going forward. Please subscribe and share if interested! Every bit of feedback helps!
I also hope to publish complete audio versions of some of my books, so stay tuned! Thank you for all your support, and I hope to have further updates soon.
I'll share on condition we do some content together, namely I get to interview you and get to pick your brain about genre and let me share your stuff all over my own tiny channels!
Hey Isaac! Congratulations on giving this a shot, I just subscribed and I'll be sure to pass the link along.
I'm sure you've already done way more research into this than I have, but my two cents as a guy who consumes almost all of my content on YouTube:
After you've recorded your long-form essay, don't forget to excerpt a few of the stickier ideas and hotter takes into two-to-three minute chunks as standalone videos. It sounds redundant and even like a waste of work, but I can honestly say some of my favorite YouTube publishers I've discovered through clips like that. I'm less likely to sit down with a one or two hour visual essay on the entirety of the Star Trek caninwith some guy I've never heard of before -- but I'll happily give someone two minutes of my time to a video with a grabby headline and a hot take about why Sisko is the best captain or why the writers were hamstrung making Janeway masculine. (They're also easier clips to send to friends and make new fans out of them.)
Just a thought! I know when you're just starting a channel like this, it's probably enough work just to get the longer form essays edited and up. But I think If you make it a habit early to put up one or two excerpts from each essay, it'll pay way bigger dividends for you down the road.
